Redefiniendo el turismo accesible: un nuevo enfoque basado en las partes interesadas

Resumen

El mundo académico define el turismo accesible como una forma de turismo que garantiza la igualdad y la participación digna de turistas con necesidades especiales de acceso físico, sensorial y cognitivo. Sin embargo, la literatura carece de una conceptualización del turismo accesible desde un punto de vista práctico. Este estudio aborda este vacío examinando cómo las partes interesadas definen el turismo accesible y sus beneficios. Los datos se recogieron en A Coruña (Spain) mediante entrevistas y grupos focales con una muestra de 23 representantes de los sectores público, privado y asociativo relacionados con el turismo y la discapacidad. La información se analizó siguiendo las directrices de la Teoría Fundamentada, con el apoyo de Atlas.ti. Los resultados revelan que la accesibilidad se considera un “concepto cultural,” un “imperativo legal” y “algo temporal”. Además, el turismo accesible se percibe como un modelo que no sólo proporciona ventajas económicas y sociales, sino también beneficios medioambientales. Este estudio contribuye a la literatura al distinguir el turismo accesible de otros modelos turísticos y presentar una nueva categorización de sus características y beneficios. A nivel práctico, ofrece valiosas ideas sobre la accesibilidad, ayudando a las Organizaciones de Gestión de Destinos a facilitar la participación de turistas con necesidades especiales de acceso en actividades turísticas.
